Printing of documents
Regardless of whether documents are made available on the internet or in a paper publication, they must be easily understood and read by anyone regardless of their ability.
By using the following guidelines, you should be able to print your information in a format that will mean the information you are providing can be read and understood.
Guidelines for the printing of documents
- Consistent inter-line spacing.
- Allow ample spacing between sections on form / document.
- Maximise inter-line spacing while ensuring all other requirements are met.
- Allow generous margins.
- Do not justify text but left align.
- Use a coated quality card in a matt finish for card formats.
- Must be heavy enough to avoid shadowing.
- Good colour contrast. Black on white or white on black are good contrasting colours.
- Use a plain sans serif typeface such as Arial or Helvetica, as serifs can be distracting.
- Use 12 point text.
- Heading text should be 14 point.
- Use upper and lower case as per typed example.
- Minimum of 2 point space between each line, giving a minimum leading of 14pt.
